In short: Most of GNT Finance's clients come to us because a friend, colleague or family member sent them. There is no referral fee and no reward scheme; our thanks is to look after the people you refer as carefully as we looked after you. Send us their name and number with their permission, or share our details with them, and we take it from there, in English, Nepali or Hindi.
A recommendation is the most valuable thing a client can give a small business, and it carries an obligation. When you put your name behind us, we treat that person's loan as a reflection on you as much as on us.
How referrals work
There are two ways to refer someone, and both are equally welcome.
- Share our details. Give them our number, 0426 403 703, or the contact page, and ask them to mention your name. That way we know who to thank and can pick up any context you have already shared.
- Introduce them directly. With their permission, send us their name and preferred contact method using the form above or by email at info@gntfinance.com.au. We will call or message them within one business day, introduce ourselves, and explain that you suggested we speak.
Either way, the person you refer receives the same service as any client: a free initial conversation, a clear explanation of what they can borrow and what it will cost, and a recommendation that meets our best interests duty. Our home-loan service is at no cost to them in most cases, because the lender pays us a commission; our guide on how mortgage brokers get paid explains it plainly.
Why there is no referral fee
Some businesses pay cash or gift cards for introductions. We have chosen not to, for a simple reason: we want your referral to be a genuine recommendation, not a transaction, and we want the person you refer to know that. Under the National Consumer Credit Protection Act, referral arrangements also carry disclosure obligations that can complicate things for the referrer. Keeping it simple keeps it honest.
Who to refer
Anyone with a home-loan question is welcome, but a few situations are where we add the most value.
First home buyers
Friends who are saving and unsure whether they are ready. We can show them the 5% First Home Guarantee with no income cap and a $950,000 Melbourne price cap, the $10,000 First Home Owner Grant on new homes, and the Victorian stamp duty exemption up to $600,000. Often they are closer than they think. Our first home buyer loans service is built for exactly this conversation.
New permanent residents
Members of the Nepali and wider South Asian community who have just received PR and want to know when they can buy. Lender rules change the day PR is granted, the guarantee opens up, and foreign purchaser duty falls away. We explain the path in Nepali if that is easier; see our Nepali mortgage broker page.
Self-employed workers and business owners
Tradespeople, restaurant owners, drivers, IT contractors and anyone whose income does not come on a payslip. Bank branches often turn them away or ask for documents that do not fit their business. We know which lenders assess self-employed income sensibly; see self-employed loans.
Investors and upgraders
People with equity in a home who want a second property, families outgrowing a house in Craigieburn or Roxburgh Park, and anyone whose fixed rate is ending. A review costs nothing and frequently saves thousands. Our investment property loans and refinancing services cover these.
What happens after you refer someone
- We make contact within one business day, mention your name, and ask how we can help. If they are not ready, we leave them with a few useful resources and no pressure.
- A free discovery call of around 30 minutes covers their goals, income, deposit and timing.
- We do the work: borrowing power, lender comparison, documents, pre-approval and settlement, following the same six steps described on our how it works page.
- We let you know they are in good hands. We will not share their financial details with you, but we will thank you and confirm we have spoken, unless they ask us not to.
Privacy of the person you refer
The details you send us about another person are handled under the Privacy Act and our privacy policy. We use them only to make the introduction, we do not add the person to marketing lists without their consent, and we delete the details if they tell us they are not interested. Please make sure the person knows you are referring them and is happy for us to call. Once they become a client, everything they share with us is confidential, including from you.
Frequently asked questions
Do I get a reward for referring someone to GNT Finance?
No. We do not pay referral fees or give gift cards, and we would rather be upfront about that than imply otherwise. What you get is the confidence that the person you referred was treated well, and our sincere thanks. Many clients tell us that is exactly why they refer their friends and family.
Can I refer someone who lives outside Melbourne?
Yes. GNT Finance arranges loans anywhere in Australia by phone, video and e-signature, with a national lender panel. We work with many clients in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth, including Nepali-speaking families, from our Mickleham office. Interstate rules on grants and duty differ, and we walk them through the local settings.
What if the person I refer is not ready to buy yet?
That is common and completely fine. We will give them a realistic picture of what they need to save, how the First Home Guarantee could shorten the wait, and what to fix on their credit file, then stay in touch until they are ready. There is no charge for the conversation and no obligation to proceed.
Will you tell me how my friend's application is going?
No. Once someone becomes a client their financial information is confidential, and we will not discuss their loan, income or approval with anyone they have not authorised. We will confirm that we have made contact and thank you. If they want to share their progress with you, that is entirely up to them.
Can I refer a family member who wants to buy with me?
Yes. Joint purchases with parents, siblings or partners are common in our community, and structuring them well matters. We can meet everyone together, explain buying property with a partner or family, and cover ownership shares, guarantees and what happens if one person wants out later.
